Core Values
History of Barotac Nuevo
Barotac Nuevo traces its beginnings to the old settlement of Malutac or Ginhawa-an, once associated with the neighboring town of Dumangas. Local accounts connect the development of the community with Don Simon Protacio and the well-known story of his white horse, Tamasak, which eventually became an important symbol of local identity.
The municipality developed during the Spanish period around its parish and agricultural communities. The Saint Anthony of Padua Parish Church remains one of its important religious and heritage landmarks and reflects the long-standing faith traditions of the people.
The name “Barotac” is commonly associated with the Spanish word baro and the Hiligaynon word lutac, both linked with mud or muddy ground. “Nuevo,” meaning new, distinguishes the municipality from Barotac Viejo.
Through the years, Barotac Nuevo grew through agriculture, fisheries, local trade, public education, community programs, and sports. Its strong football tradition has produced generations of skilled players and earned the municipality recognition as the Football Capital of the Philippines.
Today, Barotac Nuevo continues to advance its programs for transparent governance, citizen services, sustainable development, cultural preservation, tourism, local enterprise, disaster resilience, and opportunities for future generations.
